Google has presented a system for blocking child sexual abuse images

Google has begun an active campaign aimed at elimination of child sexual abuse images and introduced automatic system for recognition and blocking of such materials, announced the chairman of board of directors Eric Schmidt to the British Daily Mail.

More than 200 specialists worked on the creation of the technology for identification of prohibited content, which was based on the technology of image analysis developed by Microsoft. Automatic system can identify photos and videos that contain child sexual abuse and delete the information about them from the company’s services. In order to remove the possibility of false positives all materials are viewed by analytics, says Eric Schmidt.

At present the results of more than 100 thousand search requests that could be related to child sexual abuse images were removed from Google. Additionally, the search results of another 13 thousand requests will be accompanied by the warning message.

At the moment the system has been activated for English language only, but it will support another 158 languages within the next six months. Eric Schmidt announced that next yeat the company is planning to finish working on the system and it will be introduced to other internet-companies and organizations involved in protection of children. Similar filtering will be introduced by Microsoft for its search systems Bing and Yahoo services.

As reported by Digit.ru, in Russia the League of Safe Internet has received a license for usage of Photo DNA program developed by Microsoft. Specialized divisions of MIA of Russian Federation have already blocked approximately 3.7 thousand websites that distributed prohibited materials.
